The Center for Family Justice is a nonprofit that serves victims of domestic and sexual abuse in Fairfield, Bridgeport, Monroe, Trumbull, Stratford, and Easton, Conn. Caroline Simon ’21 worked mostly with the development team. She also spent some time on the legal end of things, becoming trained to work with victims of domestic and sexual violence and being a resource for any other department that needed help.
For development, Caroline worked on long and short term projects, research, and day-to-day tasks. Two main projects were revamping the CFJ's website and preparing for a September luncheon with keynote speaker Rachel Lloyd. When Caroline interviewed for this position, she expressed interest in the legal side of the CFJ as well as the development side. Much of the legal side was interrupted by COVID-19 issues (for example, fewer people were allowed in courtrooms), but the staff understood that she was interested in that area, so they included her on anything that could benefit her learning. By working closely with the development team, Caroline learned more about what goes into running a nonprofit.
