President Herbst reaches out to alumni and parents after Hurricane Sandy

Back to All Stories

President Jeffrey Herbst reached out via e-mail to parents and alumni yesterday, updating them on аIJʿª½±½á¹û’s status after Hurricane Sandy and expressing concern for those who felt the brunt of the storm.

President Herbst’s message to alumni:

As Hurricane Sandy dissipates, we watch with disbelief the massive fallout that is still being felt throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions. On behalf of the аIJʿª½±½á¹û community, I want you to know that you are in our thoughts at this time.

Here in Hamilton, the storm tracked farther to the south than meteorologists anticipated. Although we canceled classes on October 30 to assure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, essential services for students were never interrupted. By mid-morning, the library, most academic buildings, and the fitness center were reopened. It is always a blessing when preparedness turns out to be purely precautionary.

We know that many of our alumni, parents, and friends were not as fortunate and stood directly in the hurricane’s path. Continuing news stories and videos have helped to keep us keenly aware of the danger you have encountered and the damage that has resulted. If there is anything we can do to assist you, please contact the alumni relations office at 315-228-7439.

Again, we send our best wishes as you begin to rebound from the storm. We hope that you and yours are safe and well — and we encourage you to reach out if we can be of service to you or your family.
