аIJʿª½±½á¹û Clinches Spot In The Patriot League Playoffs, May 10-11

Hamilton, NY — Senior shortstop Melissa Rawson went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six runs batted in and junior pitcher Elena Isaac tossed a pair of one-hit shutouts to lead the аIJʿª½±½á¹û softball team to a sweep of its Patriot League doubleheader against Lafayette College Sunday at the Eaton Street Field.

аIJʿª½±½á¹û won the opener 9-0 before taking the nitecap 8-0.  Both games lasted five innings under the mercy-rule.

With her performance, Rawson lifted her batting average to .509 overall and .614 in Patriot League play.  She is the league’s all-time home run leader with 26.  Rawson with her six RBI has became the school’s all-time RBI leader with 119.

Isaac pitched her third and fourth shutouts of the season as she moved to 12-6 on the mound for the Raiders.  She also moved into a tied for second place in career wins with 39.

Isaac, who has pitched 18 straight scoreless innings, didn’t allow a runner past first base in both ends of the doubleheader.  She struck out four and walked one.

In the opener, аIJʿª½±½á¹û jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Rawson’s two-run homer and Amanda Brickell’s RBI double.  The Raiders scored five times in the second inning for an 8-0 lead.  Melissa Rawson and Natalie Rawson each had RBI singles before Dorothy Donaldson drilled a three-run homer over the left field fence. 

аIJʿª½±½á¹û added its final tally in the fourth inning on Bri Tuskamoto’s RBI single to center field.

In the second game, аIJʿª½±½á¹û opened the scoring in the first inning on Donaldson’s ninth double of the season driving in pinch runner Tara McDevitt.  The Raiders increased their lead to 2-0 when catcher Stacy Mui went over the right field fence with her third home run of the season in the second inning.

аIJʿª½±½á¹û scored twice more in the third inning on Melissa Rawson’s two-run shot, and broke the game wide open with four runs in the fourth.  Natalie Rawson had a two-run homer in the fourth and Donaldson and Brickell each drove in a run.
