Lindsay Toman (she, her, hers) received her PhD in sociology from Wayne State University in 2021. While in school, she focused her studies on sex, gender, and transgender adolescent health. Her dissertation, “Reconnecting Sex to Gender: An Examination of the Medicalization of Transgender Adolescents,” was a qualitative study exploring the medical transition process for trans and/or nonbinary youth. The dissertation was supported by a National Science Foundation grant. She has also published work in Advances in Trans Studies, Sociological Compass, and the Clinical Teacher. While in grad school, she served as a Detroit Albert Schweitzer Fellow where she designed and implemented a LGBTQ health-focused training program. This training was presented to healthcare professionals and medical students within the state of Michigan. She is currently writing about queer menstruation and the role of mental health professionals within the transgender adolescent transition process.
